Astronomy enthusiasts around the world had the opportunity to observe a stunning celestial phenomenon on Friday as Venus shone above the crescent moon.

The planet was visible to the naked eye in areas from the US, across the UK and Turkey, to China.

In our regions, Venus is called the Evening Star, Morning Star, or most commonly the Morning Star, because it appears as the brightest „star“ in the sky and is the second brightest object at night after the Moon.

At the beginning of this year, more astronomical delights are expected, with January 2025 being a good month to observe Venus and Saturn in the night sky. Those interested in astronomy will be able to observe these two planets on January 18, appearing just 2.2 degrees apart from each other, according to BBC.

Star gazers may also be able to spot „shooting stars“ during the Quadrantid meteor shower.

Its peak is expected to be tonight, on Saturday. It has been visible since December 26 and will last until January 12.

Dr. Robert Masi, deputy director of the Royal Astronomical Society in the UK, said that observers wishing to see a „celestial fireworks display“ after sunset will need to move away „as far as possible from light pollution.“

„If you have time to observe, and the weather is good, take a look because it is the perfect New Year’s treat,“ he told BBC.
