BELGRADE – Belorussian President Alexander Lukashenko today supported the „consistent and brave policy“ of the President of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik, especially in advocating for the interests of the Orthodox in BiH and the region, reports RTRS.
„Only perseverance, courage and freedom can determine the future of a nation and a region, and that is exactly what I see in the President’s policy,“ Lukashenko said after talks with Dodik, adding that they are old friends and that Belarus is always ready to support the Republic of Srpska.
Lukashenko said he understands the position of Srpska and its political representatives who „are under pressure from the collective West“.
He emphasized that it is important for small nations to have the right to determine their own destiny and that no one should be allowed to take that right away from them.
Dodik thanked Lukashenko for the support and stressed that they share the same views on many political issues. He also noted that the Republic of Srpska has always had the support of Belarus and that they expect cooperation to continue in the future.
The meeting between the two presidents was also an opportunity to discuss economic cooperation between the two countries, with Dodik expressing hope that bilateral relations will continue to strengthen in various fields.
This meeting comes at a time when the region is experiencing increased tensions, especially in relation to the situation in BiH. Dodik has been vocal in advocating for the interests of the Serbs in the region and has faced criticism from the international community for his positions.
Lukashenko’s support is seen as a significant boost for Dodik and his policies, especially given Belarus’ strategic position and influence in the international arena.
The meeting between the two presidents is also seen as a sign of the growing cooperation and alliance between Belarus and the Republic of Srpska, which could have significant implications for the geopolitical landscape in the region.
The international community will be closely monitoring the developments following this meeting, as it could potentially impact the delicate balance of power in the region.
Overall, the meeting between Lukashenko and Dodik is seen as a positive step towards strengthening the ties between the two countries and as a demonstration of solidarity and support for the Republic of Srpska.
It remains to be seen how this support from Belarus will influence the political dynamics in the region, but it is clear that it has the potential to shape the future of BiH and the wider Balkans region.
