Vladimir and Miljana Kecmanović, the parents of Kosta K., the boy who committed the massacre at the „Vladislav Ribnikar“ elementary school, began their trial today and denied guilt before the Higher Court of Belgrade.
The public was excluded from this trial, and according to unofficial information, after the panel read the indictment, Kosta K.’s parents denied all the allegations. Both of them briefly stated that they were not guilty. The trial was actually concluded for today, and tomorrow Vladimir and Miljana are expected to present their defense.
At the Higher Court, special security measures were in place. Members of the Police Brigade arrived at the court building to assist the court guards, all because of today’s trial.
The lawyers of the accused were in favor of the trial being open to the public, but the panel decided to close it to the public for the duration of this process, for the protection of the juvenile.
It’s worth noting that the indictment also includes the responsible person of the shooting range in which, as suspected, the father was practicing shooting, as well as the instructor. The father is charged with the crime of serious offenses against public safety, while the mother is accused of the crime of unauthorized production, possession, carrying, and trading of weapons.
The prosecution has proposed a prison sentence of two and a half years for Miljana.
The families of the victims will be able to follow the entire trial from the audience.
Litigation proceedings are also underway against the Kecmanovićs in lawsuits filed by the parents of the children who were killed in the school on Vračar in Belgrade.
